MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND
7th and 8th Grade Band is a continuation of the Willard Instrumental Music Program that began in 6th grade. It is our mission to ensure that we are not only shaping quality musicians, but also aiding in the development of strong contributors to society. Although our objectives focus on musical development, students will also learn the values and rewards of teamwork, perseverance, professionalism, and a balance of pride and humility through their practice and performance. We encourage students to present the best of themselves upon entering our classrooms, so that we may teach them to the best of our ability!
Students will be given objectives that are to be deemed proficient by the end of each semester. In order to continue band in high school, students must pass ALL of these objectives and assessments, attend all performances, and meet the video assessment requirement (see Grading and Continuation Policy).

CONCERT ATTIRE
"Concert Black" is the phrase we use to describe the clothing worn for a concert, contest, or other public performance. Concerts are formal events, so the dress code for the performers is also more formal than a normal day of school. Clothing fitting the "concert black" description must be solid black with no other markings, patterns, or visible logos.
How an ensemble dresses for concerts is extremely important. A group who comes onto the stage well-dressed shows respect for their audience, reflects personal pride, and gives off an aura of “something special is going to happen.” Much of our energy in rehearsal and performance is spent focusing on how we sound. Our brains, however, tend focus on how we look. We need to dress and act in a way that puts the audience’s focus on our music rather than on our appearance. Click on the button below for a helpful handout and list of what fits the requirements for concert black. Look at the pictures to the right for examples of proper concert black clothing. |
